DOWNTOWN ENCINITAS

Historic Encinitas. Old Encinitas. Downtown Encinitas. You can refer to this part of the city in many ways, but anyway you slice it, this is the Heart of Encinitas. Start out by finding a parking space, which can be a little hectic at times, but after you've moved here and become a local, you’ll be alright. Once situated, get out, stretch your legs, and go cruise the strip. San Diego is a hotbed of craft beer so a cold one can be enjoyed at most of the fine establishments, but let me guide you to some neat spots. Head over to the locally world famous Encinitas Ale House and get started on the 80-day challenge (inquire within), pair the Lump Crab BLT with a nice IPA over at The Bier Garden, or venture over to The Fish Shop on Thursdays for $1 oysters and a Pacifico or microbrew - whatever floats your boat.

Downtown Encinitas isn’t all restaurants and beer, though. The beaches are glorious, the scenery is amazing, and the people aren’t half bad either. Down at Moonlight beach, feel free to recreate the volleyball scene from Top Gun on one of the many courts and post up twenty feet away for an evening around the fire pits. If you are into Hawaiian shirts, swing by Thrifty Threads and be blown away by the sheer number of Hawaiians and other trendy gear they possess (quite the inventory). For a book, a coffee, and a view, you should take a leisurely stroll to the Encinitas library and delve into one of the daily events or classes held there consistently. One more point of interest is the train station. Nothing special about the station itself, but it can lead you onto other adventures throughout the county. It’ll drop you off downtown to catch a Padres game or in Old Town to grab a taco and marg. Let the adventure begin.
